Bold handwoven patterns by Ock Pop Tok

Home Textiles from Laos

Ock Pop Tok presents a range of home textiles that is modern and fresh. The bold, handwoven patterns are based on traditional motifs seen in sinh - skirts from Laos. Rugs, throws, cushion covers and a range of scarves are hand woven using various intricate techniques.

Made by producer groups
The range of rugs and cushion covers is made by artisans of the Tai Lue community, a group of weavers Ock Pop Tok has worked with for many years. The group is specialized in the interlocking tapestry technique; the weaving skills are passed down generations. The home textiles range is made of handspun cotton that is dyed by hand using AZO free dyes in a range of fresh, contemporary colours. Ock Pop Tok’s design team has developed this range for the European market after extensive market research and product development.

Handwoven in the Living Crafts Centre
Ock Pop Tok is also launching a handwoven range that makes use of cotton coloured with natural dyes, in beautiful shades. The striped throws are finished with a bold running stitch. These products are manufactured in Ock Pop Tok’s own production space – the Living Crafts Centre. They employ about 50 weavers in Luang Prabang, a stunning town in the North of Laos. They also work with artisan communities all over the country.

Social manufacturing
Being a social enterprise, Ock Pop Tok has over 20 years of experience in developing, producing and exporting textiles. They produce to order, from their collection or a custom design, and can handle smaller runs as well as medium sized volumes. Their minimum order value is € 1000 and they ship by air. With their new collection, they are targeting professional buyers in the European market.

CBI
The Centre for the promotion of Imports from Developing Counties, is running an export development programme in Laos. Irene is leading the Home Textiles programme and is coaching 11 small and medium sized entreprises in export marketing. CBI has already done a lot of groundwork in Laos, both in the sector as well as on company level. Special focus will be on productivity and distribution options.
