Passa Paa takes inspiration from traditional patterns and techniques from the Hmong ethinc group from the North of Laos and translates these into contemporary designs for the international market. The natural hemp fiber they use for their textiles is grown and handwoven in villages in Laos. In the Passa Paa workshop in Luang Prabang, a team of skilled screen printers apply the unique patterns on the hemp. Some textiles are embellished using the Hmong appliqué technique. At Maison & Objet, March 24-28, 2022, Passa Paa will showcase their first collection for the European market. You can already explore the collection on M&O’s MOM platform.
The new range of cushion covers are all made of handwoven hemp, a renewable material that requires a third less water than cotton and is grown without the use of pesticides. The modern patterns are applied by hand, with screen-printing and stitching techniques. All patterns are based on traditional Hmong designs and applied by artisans of the Hmong ethnic group. Some prints are all-over, while others are use sparingly, to show off the stunning natural hemp fabric.
Passa Paa is owned by 2 women. Pok comes from Laos and runs the workshop and manages production in Luang Prabang. Heather is from the UK, she designs the products and manages sales and marketing. Together, they set up the screen-printing workshop and have been manufacturing home textiles, fashion accessories as well as custom made pieces for over 10 years. Passa Paa is targeting European retailers with their new collection of cushion covers. They can ship directly to shop keepers and offer a landed price and reasonable terms.
Passa Paa’s collection of cushion covers can be found on M&O’s MOM platform, as well as the work of the other newcomer from Laos, Her Works. A selection of products will be showcased in the CBI pop-up exhibition at Maison & Objet, which will be hosted by Craftscurator and colleagues. The sales and marketing team of Passa Paa will be available for enquiries (by e-mail, whatsapp or zoom) now, during and after M&O, and they hope to be able to meet buyers in person later in 2022.
The CBI pop-up exhibition can be found in Hall 5A Unique & Eclectic stand O44 - P43 at Maison & Objet in Parc des Expositions in Paris France from March 24-28, 2022.
